From the Pastor

When I was a child my parents taught me the “magic words.” No, I’m not talking about “Abracadabra” or “Hocus Pocus.”  The magic words I learned were “please” and “thank you.”  Today I’d like to use those magic words on the congregation of Community Church.

First, I’d like to say thank you for everyone who worked so hard to make our Resurrection Day services such a success. Matt and Lois Ruedinger inspired the idea for a Sunrise Service, a pancake breakfast, a concert by the Higher Call quartet, and worked long hours to make that happen. Towards the end they did all of this while juggling their jobs and caring for Lois’ parents. They deserve our thanks. I’m thankful for Cyndi Dahm leading a time of confession and meditation on Good Friday.  I also want to thank the Elder Board for stepping up to handle the Sunrise Service. Marvin Johnson was willing to give a message on short notice. Don Shell provided the music despite also leading the 10 o’clock worship service. David Stewart read Scripture and the lyrics to the first hymn. Thanks to all of you who helped set up the gym for the breakfast and concert. You are true servants. Thanks to everyone who served on the worship team without their regular time to rehearse. I believe that Sunday was one of, if not the best, Resurrection Sundays we have ever had. I personally was moved by the presence of the Spirit. For all of you who helped make that happen, “I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks.” (William Shakespeare)

Now for the second magic word: please. Sunday morning I read a thank you note from two of our neighbors who were impressed with the WIC effort to clean up the trash on our road. I believe there are many more on our street who would also like to get to know us. Therefore, on Saturday, May 13 we are going to host a Block Party for our neighbors on Old Highway 74. It’s not an evangelistic event, just a getting to know you event. I would like to ask you all to please (pretty please) sign up to help make it work. On April 9th I sent out a Signup Genius asking for help. I’m appreciative for those of you who have already signed up, but we still need about 20 more people. Would you please see how you can be part of our team and sign up? Would you do it if I used one of the magic words?  Please!  How about both of them? Thank you!
