From the Pastor
The story is told about a man and his wife, both in their 60's, who were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. On their special day a good fairy came to them and said that because they had been so good that each one of them could have one wish.
The wife wished for a trip around the world with her husband. Whoosh... Immediately she had the vacation tickets in her hands. The man wished for a female companion 30 years younger and…whoosh... immediately he turned ninety!
Next month Pat and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary and no, I don’t wish for someone younger. God has gifted me with a wonderful woman who is my best friend and who has stood by my side through thick and thin. For the next two Sundays we are going to take an extended vacation to celebrate those forty years before Pat goes back to teaching in mid-August.
In my absence I’ve arranged for two gifted men to fill the pulpit. On July 30 Jeremy Cummings will be sharing from God’s Word. He formerly served as pastor at Waxhaw Bible Church and has taught Bible classes both internationally and in the United States. He holds a master’s in apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary. Jeremy has appeared on the Bible Answer Man radio show with Hank Hannegraaff.
Then on August 5 and 6 Reverend Bliss Steele will be sharing God’s truth using his dogs as living object lessons. Bliss was an associate pastor at Waxhaw Bible Church for eight years and now leads a ministry using hunting, shooting, and outdoor activities based at Meadow Wood Farm near Waxhaw. He will speak on Saturday night after the potluck, and again on Sunday morning.
Hebrews 13:4 says, “Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage.” It’s the greatest gift you can give your children and yourself.
Think about that!
