Think About This
Sunday many of you saw an announcement of the March 19th Egg Hunt Outreach. In today’s Communique I want to help you understand what we’re doing and how you can help. We have chosen March 19th because the next day is the first day of Spring which is more fittingly associated with fertility (eggs) than Resurrection Sunday. This is what our Celebrate the Truth teams teach as a way to allow children to enjoy the egg hunt but also keep what many call Easter about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We are targeting children up to the eighth grade. They will be divided into three groups: under 3 year olds, 4-9 year olds, and 10-13 year olds. The younger age groups will have separate “fields” of eggs hidden accordingly. The older kids will participate in a team egg hunt with clues leading them to eggs hidden around the church property. Among the hidden eggs will be special numbered “resurrection eggs” sold by Family Life Ministries. Each of those eggs has a small figure which is a part of the Gospel story which will be shared at the end of the hunt.
We are hoping that families will join us for church from 10-11:15 am. We will then have a 45 minute Care Group in the sanctuary with the emphasis on prayer and sharing. There will be no refreshments because at 12:15 everyone will go to the Family Life Center for a luncheon of sub sandwiches, chips, cookies, and tea or lemonade. Then, from 1pm to 1:45pm we will have the actual egg hunt. At 1:45 we will meet back in the FLC for the gospel presentation and a drawing for prizes which will give us information about our visitors so we can invite them to future events. After the presentation we will have “fair” type games like we did at the Rock Rest Fest. The day’s activities will end at 3 pm.
To make this happen we will need a lot of help. We will need people to donate cookies, small wrapped pieces of candy to go into the eggs, and the colored plastic eggs themselves. We also need people willing to go door to door to help publicize the event.
This week those of you with emails will receive an email from Sign-up Genius giving you the opportunity to sign up for specific roles on the actual day of the hunt. In addition there will be a brief 10 minute meeting this Sunday between worship and Care Groups this week to explain a little more and answer any questions you might have.
I have left the most important thing for last: prayer. Please pray for those who will see our advertising, who will be contacted that they will decide to come, and that God’s Word will impact their lives for eternity.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." –Matthew 19:14 We are trying to devise a way to attract kids and expose them to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
