Think About This
This Thursday we pause to give thanks to the Lord for His many blessings toward us. I recently came across this poem by George Herbert which spoke volumes to me.
Thou that has given so much to me,
Give one thing more -- a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleases me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days;
But such a heart, whose pulse may be
Thy praise.
I think we could all agree with that.
This year Advent comes close on the heels of Thanksgiving, with the first Sunday of Advent this week on November 29. I am going to take a break from our study of James in order to look deeper into the first coming of Jesus which we celebrate during Advent. For the next four weeks we are going to sing some of the most beloved Christmas carols but also explore the songs of that first Christmas recorded in Scripture and the lives of those who sang them. We will begin next Sunday with Luke 1:5-25, Elizabeth’s Song of Love. I hope to see you there.
Happy Thanksgiving,
RB
