Rev. Barry Liffiton
Pastor Barry Liffiton lived in River Edge, New Jersey, 8 miles from the George Washington Bridge into New York City, until leaving for college. He met his future wife, Joan Goodling in High School. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania before beginning studies for a PhD. in economics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In 1968 he married Joan, left Penn with a Masters degree in economics and began seminary studies at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. One year later he transferred to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Joan worked as a Registered Nurse during their seminary years and also part-time after their girls were in school. In 1972 Barry graduated with a Master of Divinity degree, cum laude, and began serving his first pastorate (24+ years) in Vestal, NY. While there he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Westminster Theological Seminary, was chairman of the Eastern district camp, chaired Ordination Councils for the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Church, chaired the district board, was president of the Vestal Rotary club, and, with Joan, raised three daughters, Cheryl, Donna, and Kathleen. Their daughters and sons-in-law are raising Barry & Joan's 8 grandchildren in Waxhaw, Blythewood, SC, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In 1997 the Liffitons began almost 10 years of ministry at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Oak Ridge, New Jersey.
Barry retired from full time ministry in 2006 in order to give time and support to his aging mother in NJ and his daughter, Kathleen, in Waxhaw who had 4 children below school age. After maintaining two homes in PA and NC for a number of years, the Liffitons sold their Pennsylvania home and became full time NC residents in 2015.
Since “retiring” he has received training from Interim Pastor Ministries and served in two interim pastorates; one for 18 months at Northern Valley EFC in Cresskill, NJ and one for 16 months at the EFC of Blairstown, NJ. He has enjoyed opportunities to preach and teach in churches in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and North Carolina.
Union County's Best Kept Secret
From its beginning in 1981, Community Church has been different. It was started by a group of people who wanted a place where the Bible was taught and applied, where worship was relevant, and where people took a genuine interest in each other. Today we have members and attenders from several counties.
Join us for worship on Sundays at 10:00 am.
